If your CPAP is shutting off while you are using it, then you have a problem. Luckily, this is usually not as bad as it may seem. Let’s take a look at what could be going on and how you can fix it on your own.

Why is the CPAP turning off?

Modern CPAP machines have quite a few bells and whistles that automate the therapy. These features can make life on CPAP a lot easier, but they can also complicate things. One of those features can cause your CPAP to shut off, even while in use. The Auto-Off feature is standard on most CPAPs these days. If your CPAP thinks that you have taken your mask off, then it will shut down. This is a pain, but it is usually easy to correct.

How to keep the CPAP from turning off:

There are two options for correcting this issue, and you should begin by trying the first option. If you can’t fix the issue with the first try, then you should give the second option a try.

Option 1:

This issue is almost always due to a large leak. That leak could be coming from anywhere from the CPAP to your mask seal. However, it is most likely due to a mask leak. You should work to correct the mask seal and make sure that it is connected properly. Check out this blog here for a more detailed explanation on fixing mask leaks.

Option 2:

If you cannot fix the leaks that are causing the CPAP to turn off, then you will have to disable the Auto-Off feature. That is only done in the clinical settings menu in most cases. We have great videos that will walk you through this on most CPAP models. You can search our video library on youtube here.

What if the CPAP is still turning off?

If you have corrected leaks and disabled the Auto-Off feature, then you may have a larger issue. In this case I would direct you to our CPAP repair page here.
