Why Doesn’t my new CPAP Mask connect to my tubing?

We must hear this question more than almost any other question about CPAP. This is because it is such a common issue for CPAP users. First and foremost, don’t panic. There is usually a very quick and easy solution that doesn’t involve any tools or complicated adapters.

How to get your CPAP mask connected to the tubing:

Almost all CPAP tubing has a universal 22mm connection. The same can be said for almost all CPAP masks. This means that you should be able to connect any mask to any tubing. The reason why your CPAP mask won’t connect is almost certainly a part of your previous mask stuck in the end of your CPAP tubing. That part is called a “quick-connector”. That connector allows you to snap your mask in and out of the tube more easily. However, if that connector is left inside the CPAP tube, you will not be able to connect a new mask to that tubing.

How to get the quick connect out of the tubing:

Getting that old connector out of the tube can be a little tricky. Some connectors can even go so far in the tubing that you won’t even be able to see it. The best way to get that connector out is to reattach your previous mask to the tubing. Then, wiggle it back and forth pulling gently until the connector works its way out of the CPAP tube. If you do not have the old mask you may have to put your finger inside the tube and use your finger to work the connector back and forth pulling gently until it wiggles out of the tube.

What if you can’t get the CPAP mask connector out?

In some cases that connector just will not come out. In that case you may have to swap out the CPAP tube. In almost any case you can use a standard CPAP tube to get connected to your new mask. If you are using a heated tube, then you will have to get the proper replacement heated tube for your particular CPAP. I would suggest trying again before giving up. Maybe a pair of pliers might help.
